A common stereotype in the minds of many is that the locals of Amsterdam are constantly high. This would be a poor misconception as most of the locals are biking down the streets, shopping, eating at restaurants or just relaxing at a local sidewalk café.
The city awakes from its sleep, emerging from the mist making mornings there spectacular to wake up too. As the day progresses, a tourist could go enjoy the 1200 old bridges that accompany all of Amsterdam’s 150 canals. |

Punk teenagers and young hippies who are just aiming to get high are not welcomed much by Amsterdam. In the minds of most teenagers, Amsterdam is the place to be if you are trying to get high, while legal exotic plants are part of the city’s culture, it is not the message that Amsterdam representatives want to send. Amsterdam is more apt to welcome visitors with a conservative state of mind, meaning that it is fine to go there and smoke but they don’t want a person to go broke getting high. Amsterdam has gradually become a place where you can enjoy a smoke and enjoy the city without spending all your money. |

Most people when they think of Amsterdam think of hippies and coffee shops catering more to the likes of Cannabis. While it still does offer these special coffee shops, the hippie era died out with the 60’s and 70’s. Now when people go to Amsterdam, they are not entering a hippie haven, instead they are greeted by a very successful cosmopolitan, business-minded city. |
