| Amsterdam: A Visitor’s Perspective.:Part I |
|
Most people when they think of Amsterdam think of hippies and coffee shops catering more to the likes of Cannabis. While it still does offer these special coffee shops, the hippie era died out with the 60’s and 70’s. Now when people go to Amsterdam, they are not entering a hippie haven, instead they are greeted by a very successful cosmopolitan, business-minded city.
Amsterdam is home to many ancient canals and town houses but the landscape surrounding these features is changing. Businesses are popping up all over and growing rapidly, bringing a prosperous economy. Amsterdam has a population that lies somewhere around 750,000 people. With that many people and a free thinking culture, a prosperous business city is not welcomed by all. The free culture and collective living does not exist merely because of legal exotic plants, a lot of it has to due with the successful economic growth that Amsterdam has undergone.
